Staging is a costly but unavoidable reality when listing a house for sale. It can be considered the final stage in the home renovation process. Designing the right look using quality pieces with just the right proportions, color, textures and aesthetic is crucial. Ostensibly, staging is about drawing attention to the possibilities and steering the prospective buyer into considering your vision as their own, for how a space should look or be utilized. And therein lies the crux, because furniture and decoration are often a matter of personal taste and therefore somewhat subjective. At the risk of being bland and dull, is it best to take a conservative approach in hopes of appealing to the widest audience possible? There is also the matter of how much staging is enough? Keeping in mind that monthly rental costs go up proportionally with the number of rooms staged. Lastly, it’s important to remember that staging is not about what we would like to see in our own homes, but rather what makes the most sense in terms of quality, layout and return on investment.
